Why the Self Service Excellence Awards were established:
KioskCom launched the inaugural industry-wide Self-Service Excellence Awards in 2002 to honor the most successful and innovative self-service and interactive digital media solutions. Over the years, KioskCom has honored over 150 companies across multiple industries for their leadership, innovations, and successes with self-service and interactive digital media solutions.

The Self Service Excellence Awards is unique in that this Awards Contest has always had a core focus on the success of the self-service and interactive digital media solution based on the measurements set forth by the deploying organization, and not just the technology suppliers. Past winners honored include: BMW, SONY, FedEx, AAA, the US Postal Service, Avis, Hilton Hotels, Sunoco, SAS, Daimler Chrysler and ExxonMobil.

Applications will be taken for each of the following categories for all forms of self-service and interactive digital media solutions, including kiosks, self-checkout and other self-service technologies:

Entry Questions:

For all of the categories above you will be asked the following questions related to the self-service and interactive digital media solutions being nominated...

1. Please provide a brief overview of the project/technology that may be used for the awards presentation or promotional purposes - information provided here must be non-confidential.
2. Explain the objectives of the deployment or the technology - what problem were you trying to solve and how?  Please be specific.
3. Provide an in-depth project description including timeframe of the project.  You may include information for the judges' consideration that cannot be made public - answers to this question will be viewed by judges and staff only and will not be included in the presentation or promotion of the awards program. 

4. Please describe the results you achieved with this project, relative to the objectives set forth.  Be sure to state how results were measured and provide as much tangible evidence of your results as possible for the judges' consideration.

You will also be asked for the number of units deployed (required) and to indicate those who provided the technologies used (software, hardware, etc. - not required).  The answers to these two questions will not be considered by the judges and will in no way affect the scores your entry receives.

Nominate a Industry Deployer of the Year!
The Industry Deployer of the Year will be given to an individual person from a self service technology deployer organization (retail, government, healthcare, casino, hotel, etc.) This award will focus on the strategic role they have played in driving their self service deployment, their vision, innovative programs initiated by the leader and how their results are measured.

Rules and Regulations:

1. Applications may be submitted by companies in the private and public sectors as well as technology companies.  However, the focus of the program is on how the project was successful for the client, so their input is vital and should be included in the applications.

2. After a thorough review of the written applications by the judging panel, finalists for each category will be announced.  Finalists must make their submissions available for judges' final usability testing at KioskCom's Self Service Expo from 5 - 7:30 PM on April 15, 2008 in the Exhibition Hall.  During this time, each judge will interact with the entry for approximately 10 minutes.  For 5 minutes of this time, finalists may converse with the judges, point out key components of the entry and answer any questions.  For the remaining 5 minutes, judges must be left to interact with the entry without input from the finalist representative.

Usability scores will be based on criteria including but not limited to overall design, navigation, ease of use, error recovery, innovation, clarity of content, and brand extension.

Failure to make the submissions available for the judges final "hands-on" testing will result in immediate disqualification.  Please note:  All services required (i.e. power, connectivity) will be the responsibility of the finalist.  The Self Service Excellence Awards assumes no financial responsibility for these services.  Space may be provided by Self Service Expo to display these entries, should they not be displayed in an Exhibitor's booth.  Finalists must notify Self Service Expo of their choice of display location at the time the finalists are announced. 

3. The application scores will count for 50% of the overall score, and the final "hands-on" testing will count for the remaining 50%.  In the past, mere fractions of percentage points have separated winning entries, so please make sure you follow the application, and answer each question completely. 

4. Awards will be presented for first place in each category.  The Self Service Excellence Awards will be announced during the Self Service Excellence Awards Ceremony on April 16, 2008 from 4:15 - 5:15 PM.

5. Winners will be highlighted and promoted at the industry's largest and premiere gathering of self-service and interactive digital media deployers and suppliers, KioskCom Self Service Expo, April 16-17, 2008 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.  Additional coverage may also be provided to all awards recipients.

6. A portion of the project must have launched between January 1, 2007 and the present, and you must have sufficient results to support the success of the project.

7. All entry forms must contain a contact person and their contact information for the client, not just the technology supplier.

8. A representative from the deploying organization is encouraged to attend and accept the award should your application be selected.

9. KioskCom Self Service Expo reserves the right to move applicants into more appropriate categories upon receipt of application.

Application Deadline:
Applications will be accepted from January 2, 2008 through February 15, 2008.  All entries must be received by 11:59 PM EST on February 15, 2008.  An application fee of $195 is due per entry.  (This excludes Industry Leader of the Year - Deployer, Industry Leader of the Year - Supplier and Industry Innovator of the Year)  Finalists will be notified in March, 2008 and winners are announced at the ceremony at KioskCom Self Service Expo, April 16, 2008 from 4:15 - 5:15 PM.
